DUBAI

Come January and the malls of Dubai are abuzz with activity. The glittering Dubai Shopping festival held annually this month is one big reason for you to pack your bags and head to this ultra-modern emirate. And when you decide to take a break from mall-hopping, you can sky dive over the Palm Jumeirah, climb to top of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa or indulge in some adrenaline pumping dune bashing in the desert. While malls amaze, souks enthrall. Walk through the dazzling Gold Souk in Deira, go back in time in the markets of Old Dubai and relax on a Dhow cruise as you watch wooden Abras cruise along the Dubai creek. Another must visit in this constantly changing city is the aptly named Dubai Miracle Garden. From aquariums to dolphin shows to classy hotels and enormous malls, Dubai is the perfect holiday destination!

CAMBODIA

Cambodia is a relatively unexplored country compared to its neighbours with a long history that is both inspiring and harrowing in equal measures. Think ancient temples begging to be explored, an incredibly beautiful coastline, and some of the friendliest locals you’ll ever meet. Travel back in time through the temples of Angkor Wat, telling stories etched in stone. Lose yourself in the surreal sunrise over the largest temple in the world. Stroll through the chaos at Cambodia’s exotic capital, Phnom Penh, where French architecture meets medieval gems of the Khmer era. Marvel at the ornate Silver Pagoda and the palatial Royal palace here. Take a sunset cruise down the Mekong river and visit the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields. Ride a boat down the Tonle Sap River and float through the forests teeming with wildlife.

ST. LUCIA

Dreamt of holidaying on a tropical island with your loved one, with sandy beaches, orchards with a plethora of fruits, crystal blue waters and geological wonders? Head to the geographically rich island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. If you think it has just beaches, you probably do not know of its lush rainforests, gorgeous hidden waterfalls and the magnificent volcanic Pitons perched in the endless blue. Head there in January, when the weather is just about perfect to bask on the beach. Indulge in a thrilling rainforest walking adventure, go zip lining over tree canopies, savour the countryside by touring the many fruit plantations, sample fresh local produce, sink into the sulphur spring pools and of course spend time on the beaches! The island is your ideal winter destination for oodles of romance and truckloads of adventure.

RIO DE JANEIRO

Is it all about the carnival? Definitely not. Is it all about football? Certainly not. Is it a must visit? Definitely yes for its chaos, the fervour on the streets, the cheer on the Copacabana beach, stunning architecture and picturesque lakes. Rio is a celebration right from the sexy Samba to the electrifying football matches at the Maracana Football Stadium. Nature lovers can revel in the excitement of a forest trail and hiking at the Tijuca rainforest. And no trip to Rio is complete without a cable car ride to Pao de Acucar for a spectacular sunset view alongside Christ the Redeemer and the Copacabana beach. Visit the majestic Sugarloaf Mountain and climb the Selaron Steps near Santa Teresa, the artistic heart of Rio. And before you leave, make sure to attend a live samba session and shake a leg in this vibrant city!

ZANZIBAR

Blissful sunsets, azure waters, dolphin chasing and romantic coastlines are what instantly reminds one of this exotic tropical destination in Africa. But wait, there is more. Dive into the clear warm waters to explore the coral reefs and the fascinating ship wrecks. Walk through the historic Stone town on its cobbled alleyways, through ancient houses, traditional mosques, old mansions and bazaars with an old-world charm of Persian, Arabic, African and Anglican cultures. Take a spice tour to experience the aromas of various spices, the famed Zanzibar clove and more. For the adventurous, Zanzibar has the Mafia island where you can swim with the whale shark, for the foodies there is a variety of street food to sample at the Forodhani gardens and for the beach bums there are isolated beaches like Pemba and Mnemba. Zanzibar surely has something for everyone.
